RIP: Details Emerge on Who Was Having Fun With MP’s Husband at Night Before He Collapsed and Died
The 57-year-old former judge had travelled from Nairobi to the countryside and, on Friday, visited a bereaved family in the neighbourhood.
Later that evening, he went to Reyfee, a popular entertainment spot on the outskirts of Kibwezi Township, where he watched Arsenal defeat Coventry City 3–0.
According to a relative, Mr Mutava appeared to be in good spirits throughout the evening. A designated driver later drove him home in the early hours of Saturday.
The relative said Mr Mutava walked from the vehicle into the sitting room before his condition suddenly deteriorated.
His family quickly took him to Othofix Hospital in Makindu Township, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
His body was subsequently transferred to Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi as the family began making arrangements for his burial.
Questions surrounding the sudden death have prompted the family to seek further medical answers.
A postmortem examination conducted on Monday indicated that Mr Mutava had suffered a heart attack.
However, MP Jessica Mbalu said she had requested a toxicology examination to determine whether any substance could have contributed to his death and to give the family closure.
The former judge had a distinguished legal career but was also involved in several controversial episodes.
He rose to national prominence after his removal from the judiciary in connection with a case involving Goldenberg scandal figure Kamlesh Pattni.
He was also linked to bribery allegations earlier this year during legal proceedings involving former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju and his property dispute.
Former Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, who taught Mr Mutava law at the University of Nairobi, described him as an exceptionally intelligent, disciplined and respectful lawyer.
He said Makueni had lost one of its finest legal minds.
Mr Mutava is scheduled to be buried on September 4, 2026, as the family awaits the toxicology findings.
