Linda Mwananchi to Storm Meru County Over the Weekend for a Rally
Sifuna announced the date on August 18, urging Meru residents to prepare and directing supporters to the movement’s official channels for updates.
The event forms part of the Linda Mwananchi Tour, which has already covered several regions including Western Kenya, Kisumu, and Homa Bay.
The Meru stop comes days after the movement’s Homa Bay tour on August 16 was marred by chaos, injuries, and allegations of coordinated attacks.
Linda Mwananchi has accused security agencies and local leaders of failing to protect supporters, while insisting the incident has only strengthened its resolve.
Former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, who has aligned with the movement, is expected to host the rally.
Organisers have yet to confirm the exact venue, but the gathering is anticipated to draw significant crowds in a county viewed as strategically important in the Mt Kenya region.
Linda Mwananchi, loosely translating to “Protect the Citizen,” emerged as a grassroots platform critical of the broad-based government arrangement.
It focuses on issues such as the cost of living, governance, youth unemployment, and accountability, positioning itself as an alternative force in the opposition landscape.
Leaders including Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi have been at the forefront of the tours.
The Meru rally is expected to test the movement’s expanding influence beyond traditional strongholds as it continues building momentum toward 2027.
