Kisii and Nyamira are currently perceived to be behind the former Interior CS Fred Matiang'i who comes from the region.
Matiang'i is among the presidential hopefuls allied to the United Alternative Government who want to send President William Ruto packing in 2027.
The Jubilee Party leader is expected to rally his backyard behind him and have grassroot leaders in his camp.
For this reason, some elected leaders from Nyamira and Kisii who are leaning towards the government risk losing their seats if Matiang'i runs for President.
However, there are some who are likely to survive Matiang'is wave and retain their seats. One of them is Sylvanus Osoro.
Osoro is the current MP for South Mugirango constituency in Kisii county. He is serving his second term and seeking another term in the upcoming general election.
In the last election when majority of the Kisii people were supporting the late Raila Odinga, Osoro sided with Ruto and and still retained his seat.
Raila Odinga got majority of South Mugirango votes after he garnered 30,499 votes against Ruto's 21,287 votes. Osoro on the other hand won MP seat with 25,152 votes against ODM candidate Dennis Makori's 21,710 votes.
This means the majority of South Mugirango votes preferred Raila Odinga as their presidential candidate but still votes for Osoro as MP.
Dennis Makori is still in the race against Osoro in the upcoming polls but this time without the support of Raila Odinga. Makori has remained in ODM but doesn't side with either Linda Ground or Linda Mwananchi.
He is only busy with grassroot campaigns. However, it will be difficult for him to unseat Osoro who has proven to be a formidable opponent.
