NEWS IN: ODM Senator Threatens To Expell Any Linda Mwananchi MP Who'll Support 2026 Finance Bill

Vihiga Senator has issued a stern warning to Members of Parliament affiliated with the Linda Mwananchi movement, declaring that any lawmaker who supports the Finance Bill 2026 risks expulsion from the opposition outfit.

Speaking at AIC Kyanda Church in Machakos on Sunday, May 31, 2026, ahead of the highly anticipated Linda Mwananchi mega rally, Osotsi said the movement had unanimously resolved to oppose the proposed legislation, which critics have described as punitive to ordinary Kenyans.

Addressing congregants and supporters, the senator maintained that the Finance Bill contains provisions that would further burden citizens already grappling with a high cost of living, unemployment and economic hardships.

He stressed that all MPs aligned with Linda Mwananchi must vote against the bill when it is tabled in Parliament.

Osotsi revealed that movement leaders had tasked him with ensuring members remain united on the matter, insisting that lawmakers who defy the position by voting in favour of the bill would face disciplinary action.

The remarks come at a time of heightened political tension as debate over the Finance Bill 2026 intensifies across the country.

Opposition leaders, civil society groups and labour unions have raised concerns over proposed taxes and levies, arguing that they will place additional pressure on struggling households.

The government, however, has defended the bill, saying the measures are necessary to boost revenue collection, finance development projects and reduce reliance on borrowing.

Meanwhile, the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) has also criticised the proposed law.

Through its advisory board member, , the union accused the government of overtaxing workers and failing to introduce meaningful tax relief for salaried Kenyans.

As Parliament prepares to debate the bill, the Finance Bill 2026 is emerging as one of the most divisive political issues of the year, with both supporters and opponents mobilising support ahead of the crucial vote.
