Dolly Parton’s Final Wish Revealed: Why She Chose to Be Buried in High Heels

August 27, 2026
Dolly Parton will have a final farewell that reflects the glamorous style she maintained throughout her remarkable career.

The legendary American country singer will reportedly be buried wearing her trademark high heels and a comfortable cotton dress. The details were shared by her nephew and head of security, Bryan Seaver.

Parton will be laid to rest beside her late husband, Carl Dean, at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Nashville, Tennessee.

Dean was buried at the same location after his death in March 2025. The couple had been married since 1966 and kept much of their relationship away from the public eye.

Parton had reportedly made clear requests concerning her funeral arrangements. Among them was a desire to be placed on what her nephew described as a beautiful bed of plush cotton.

Her choice of high heels reflects one of the most recognisable parts of her public image. For decades, Parton was known for her towering hairstyles, sparkling outfits and distinctive footwear.

The decision means her signature fashion sense will remain part of her final appearance.

Her funeral will also be a private family affair. According to a statement from her family, only immediate relatives will attend the service, in keeping with her wishes.

Fans have instead been encouraged to honour her memory through social media and messages shared on her official website.

The family has also asked mourners to consider making donations to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library rather than sending flowers.

The programme, founded by Parton, has provided books to young children and became an important part of her philanthropic legacy.

Parton died aged 80 on August 25, 2026, leaving behind a career that stretched across music, acting, business and charity.

Her unusual burial request offers a final glimpse of the personality and style that made her an enduring country music icon.
