"The Ethnic Remarks Made by Aden Duale Are Deeply Regrettable" Ann Waiguru Expresses Dissapontment

Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru has publicly criticized Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale over remarks she described as regrettable, calling for an apology and urging political leaders to exercise greater responsibility in their public statements.

In a strongly worded statement, Waiguru expressed concern over what she termed ethnic profiling in Duale's response to the recent Ol Kalou by-election. 

She argued that it was both overly simplistic and potentially harmful to attribute the government's political challenges to tribal prejudice, especially considering the support the Kenya Kwanza administration previously received from the Kikuyu community.

According to the governor, reducing complex political issues to ethnic narratives risks creating unnecessary divisions and undermining national cohesion. 

She maintained that such rhetoric should have no place in Kenya's political discourse, particularly as the country moves closer to the next General Election.

Waiguru also addressed Duale directly, stating that his long experience in public service and national politics should compel him to exercise greater caution when making public comments. 

She said that, given his senior position in government, his remarks fell short of the standard expected from a national leader.

The Kirinyaga governor further insisted that an apology was necessary, arguing that it was owed not only to the Kikuyu community but to all Kenyans. She emphasized that leaders have a duty to promote unity rather than deepen political or ethnic divisions.

Concluding her statement, Waiguru urged politicians across the country to embrace responsibility, restraint, and sobriety in both their words and actions. 

She stressed that Kenya belongs to every citizen regardless of ethnicity and called on leaders to safeguard national unity as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 General Election.
