Rift Valley has a total of 14 counties namely Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, West Pokot, Narok, Kajiado, Trans Nzoia, Samburu, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo and Turkana.
The region is considered President William Ruto's stronghold because the single majority tribe dwelling there are the Kalenjins. Ruto is also a Kalenjin and the community greatly revere him and always rally behind him.
However, despite being Ruto's perceived stronghold, there are some counties in Rift Valley where the head of state might fail to get majority of votes. Some of these counties are Nakuru, Laikipia and Kajiado.
Nakuru
Because it borders Mt Kenya region, more than a half of Nakuru population is occupied by the Kikuyus. President Ruto fell out with the Kikuyu community after voting for him in the last general election.
The impeachment of Gachagua as the deputy president also trigger more anger the community has against the president.
For this reason, most of the Kikuyus could vote for the opposition candidate. This will make it difficult for Ruto to get majority of votes in the county.
Laikipia
Just like Nakuru, Laikipia county is also dominated by the community who are more than 50% of it's population. If majority the Kikuyu vote for an opposition candidate then they will definitely beat him in the county.
Kajiado
This county is cosmopolitan with the Maasai being the majority with approximately 45% of its population.Kikuyus follows with over 25% while other tribes like Kamba, Luo, Luhya and Kisii follow in the same order.
The majority of the Kamba are supporting Kalonzo Musyoka who is in the opposition. The Kikuyus and Kisiis are also majorly in the opposition due to Gachagua and Fred Matiang'i influence. Maasai and Luhyans seem to be divided and could share their votes.
If Kikuyu, Kamba and Kisii vote for opposition candidate and the Luhya and Maasai divide their votes then Ruto will definitely lose in Kajiado.
