Rigathi Gachagua has ended his United Kingdom tour earlier than planned, saying the political situation in Kenya requires his attention back home.
The former Deputy President, who now leads the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), had initially scheduled a month-long visit focused on trade and diaspora engagement.
Gachagua had travelled to the U.K. to market Kenyan coffee and tea while also meeting investors and members of the Kenyan community living abroad.
The tour was part of DCP’s wider push to build economic networks and attract support for local farmers and small businesses linked to the export sector.
However, the former DP announced that he would return to Kenya after only one week, saying many Kenyans had urged him to focus on issues affecting citizens at home.
According to Gachagua, the country is facing growing economic and political pressure, and leaders must remain present and accessible to the public.
During his meetings abroad, Gachagua said he received constant messages from supporters requesting him to continue championing the concerns of ordinary wananchi.
He explained that the demands from the ground convinced him to revise his schedule and prioritize local engagements over the remaining international activities.
His decision comes at a time when the DCP leader has intensified political rallies and consultations across different regions.
Analysts view the move as part of his strategy to strengthen his grassroots support and maintain visibility in national politics ahead of future political contests.
Despite shortening the trip, Gachagua maintained that promoting Kenyan products abroad remains important for the country’s economy.
He said his team would continue pursuing trade opportunities while he shifts focus to political mobilization and public engagement within Kenya.
