Central County Where Ruto Will Get a Good Number of Votes in Next Year's Election (Opinion)

Central Kenya has five counties namely Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Nyandaru,Kiambu and Murang'a. The region is occupied majorly by the Kikuyu community, and has over 3.4 Million votes. This is according to IEBC register following the end of Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration.

Currently, DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua is the most influential politician among the Kikuyu community. According to the report that was published by the Star newspaper, Gachagua controls at least 70% of the Kikuyu.

For this reason, the people of Central Kenya are expected to align with the United Alternative Government which Gachagua is a member. Sometimes back Gachagua reportedly said he is in control of Mt Kenya politics and therefore he will definitely deliver the region's votes to the opposition.

However, President William Ruto might also get a good number of votes in some areas in Central. On of these areas is Kiambu county.

The proximity to Nairobi makes Kiambu tends to be cosmopolitan area because some Kenyans of different ethnic backgrounds cross from Nairobi to settle in the county. Some places in Kiambu like Thika are industrial areas where different communities works.

Places like Gachie, Ndenderu, Ruaka and Wangige have big population of Kamba, Luo and Luhya settling there. These communities are not influenced by Gachagua on which political side to take. Ruto can therefore win some of their votes if he finds a good way to talk to them.

Though the Head of State cannot get majority of votes in Kiambu, he can still manage to a good number that can be significant in his basket. In the last general election, the late Raila Odinga got 210,580(25%) votes in Kiambu when he performed dismissally in other Central Kenya counties.
