Reports indicate that the suspect, said to be Felister's boyfriend, allegedly arrived at the students' shared residence carrying fuel before a fire broke out inside the room.

One of the victims was able to move toward the exit, while the other collapsed near the doorway as she struggled to escape.
Both students suffered critical injuries and were rushed to hospital before being transferred to Benjamin Mkapa Hospital for specialised treatment.
Despite efforts by medical personnel, Rebecca died on June 11, while Felister succumbed to her injuries on June 13.
Local officials said other students sustained minor burns during the rescue efforts.
